How the Ha Giang Loop Tour Works
Four stages from Hanoi to the mountains and back.

Ride Through Mountain Passes
Your easy rider takes you through Bac Sum Pass, Heaven Gate, and Chin Khoanh Pass — 150 km of karst mountains, terraced rice fields, and Hmong villages. Visit the Hmong King's Palace in Sa Phin. Overnight in Dong Van with dinner and a campfire.
Ma Pi Leng Pass & Nho Que River
Day two crosses the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass — Vietnam's most dramatic mountain road. Walk the Death Cliff sky path, then descend to the turquoise Nho Que River for a boat ride through towering limestone cliffs. Stay at a Du Gia Village homestay.
Waterfall, Viewpoints & Return
Swim at Du Gia Waterfall, cross Lung Ho to Nui Doi Mountain viewpoint, then ride back to Ha Giang City. Board the evening sleeper bus to Hanoi — arriving the next morning with 410 km of memories.

"We had such an amazing trip. Very communicative with everything well organised and nice rooms. The boat trip was a nice break from being on the bike with some great views again. Eric our guide has all the energy and made the trip lots of fun and all the drivers were great too! Highly recommend"

"Excellent activity and a great provider. They were very good at communicating beforehand. We were picked up, had accomodation the night before and enjoyed 3 amazing days around the loop. Erick was a great tour guide and our drivers were kind and friendly. Would recommend to anyone to take this tour!"
"Thank you Lee for the amazing three days and two nights! The tour was very well organised with a lot of stops and the easy riders took good care of us always asking if we were still okay. The food was very good too, the happy water, drinks and karaoke in the evenings were really fun! Hoa was my rider, he really knew how to ride. This is coming from someone who drives big bikes myself. 100% recommend this tour, dont search any further just book it!"

"Super trip with the gut Super trip with the guys, led by No Four...my main priority was to experience the dramatic Karst mountain scenery, which we certainly did...but there was more with a great insight into much of the local culture....all great recommended!"

"Just finished the Ha Giang Loop and it was incredible! The views were stunning, and the group had such a great vibe. Huge shoutout to our guide ("number four"), who went above and beyond and made amazing stops - meeting locals, learning about agricultural and artisanal activities, and tasting local food made it really authentic. The food was excellent and plentiful (never hungry!), and the homestays were lovely. Everything was super well organised by Hong Hao - smooth pick-up, hostel stay before, and very flexible. My driver was also amazing - very careful and safe throughout. Would 100% recommend!"
"I just finished the 4-day Ha Giang loop with Hong Hao and it was honestly the highlight of my trip. We had such a great group of people, which made the whole experience even more fun. I rode on the back and had an amazing driver who made the ride feel really safe the entire time, so I could just relax and actually take in the unreal mountain views. Binh is an absolutely amazing group leader. He kept everything running smoothly, made sure everyone was okay, and brought such good energy to the trip. Doing the four days was the perfect choice because we never felt rushed, the homestays were super comfortable, and the dinners were great. Massive thanks to the crew at Hong Hao, my fantastic driver, and especially Binh for such an epic adventure. I can't recommend them enough!"

Thanks to Alex and his riders for the great experience!"

Everything you need to know before booking your motorbike adventure.
A 3-day Ha Giang Loop tour with an easy rider starts from $186 per person. This includes a sleeper bus from Hanoi, Honda Blade 110cc motorbike, English-speaking guide, all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), accommodation in Dong Van and a Du Gia homestay, Nho Que River boat ticket, entrance fees, helmet, raincoat, and travel insurance. You only need cash for drinks and optional tips.
With an experienced easy rider (professional driver), the Ha Giang Loop is safe. The roads are paved but narrow and winding with steep drops — which is exactly why most travellers choose an easy rider rather than self-driving. Hong Hao Travel's drivers know every turn of the 410 km route, and the tour includes helmets, protective gear, and travel insurance. The company has a perfect 5.0/5 safety rating from 79 guests.
The Ha Giang Loop is consistently rated the best experience in Vietnam by travellers. Every single guest on this tour has rated it 5 out of 5 stars. You'll ride through UNESCO-listed karst landscapes, cross Ma Pi Leng Pass (Vietnam's most dramatic mountain road), boat on the Nho Que River, sleep in a Hmong homestay, and join a campfire with locals — all in three days. For $186 all-inclusive, it's exceptional value.
The 3-day loop covers all the essential highlights — Ma Pi Leng Pass, Nho Que River, Dong Van, Du Gia Waterfall — at a comfortable pace with 120-150 km per day. The 4-day version adds an extra day in Meo Vac area with more time at viewpoints and less riding per day. Choose 3 days if you're on a tighter schedule; choose 4 days if you prefer a slower pace and deeper exploration of remote villages.
If you don't have extensive motorbike experience on mountain roads, choose an easy rider (professional driver). The Ha Giang Loop has hairpin turns, steep passes, loose gravel sections, and unpredictable livestock on the road. An easy rider lets you focus on the scenery and photography instead of the road. Self-drive is only recommended for experienced riders with a valid Vietnamese motorcycle licence — note that international driving permits for motorcycles are often not accepted.
The best months are September to November (golden rice terraces, clear skies) and March to May (spring flowers, mild weather). December to February is cold and foggy but beautifully atmospheric. June to August brings monsoon rain — the mountains are lush green but roads can be slippery. The tour runs year-round; Hong Hao Travel provides raincoats in all seasons.
Pack light — you'll leave large luggage at the hostel in Ha Giang City. Bring your passport (required for hotel check-in), sunscreen, comfortable clothes, a warm layer (mountain temperatures drop at altitude), cash for personal expenses, and a phone with storage for photos. The tour provides helmets, protection, raincoats, and daily drinking water. A small daypack or backpack is ideal for the motorbike.
The tour starts with a sleeper bus pickup from your hotel in Hanoi (evening departure, approximately 7-8 hours). You arrive in Ha Giang City early morning, rest at Hong Hao Hostel, then begin riding after breakfast. The loop itself takes 3 days covering 410 km. After the final day's ride back to Ha Giang City, you board the evening sleeper bus and arrive in Hanoi the next morning. Total: 5 days door-to-door, 3 days of riding.
Yes, with an easy rider. You sit on the back of the motorbike while a professional driver handles the mountain roads. No riding experience is needed — the easy rider does all the driving. The small group format (maximum 10-12 people) means the guide can give personal attention. Beginners consistently rate this tour 5/5, praising how safe and comfortable the drivers made them feel.
Ma Pi Leng Pass is a 20 km mountain road at 1,500 metres elevation in Ha Giang Province — widely considered the most spectacular road in Vietnam. The pass features sheer cliff drops to the Nho Que River canyon below, with views stretching across layers of karst mountains. The tour stops at the Ma Pi Leng viewpoint for coffee and photos, and includes a walk along the Death Cliff sky path for panoramic views.
The tour includes a free dorm night at Hong Hao Hostel in Ha Giang City (the night before the loop starts), a hotel or hostel in Dong Van on night one, and a local homestay in Du Gia Village on night two. The Dong Van accommodation has private rooms and hot showers. The Du Gia homestay is a traditional stilt house surrounded by rice fields — basic but authentic, with a family-cooked dinner and campfire.
Tipping is not included and is entirely optional. If you feel your driver provided excellent service — and most guests do, given the perfect 5.0 rating — a common range is 200,000-500,000 VND ($8-20 USD) for a 3-day tour. Your driver rides 410 km through mountains over three days while ensuring your safety and comfort, so tips are genuinely appreciated. Cash in VND is preferred.
